Remake “A birthday present for Wolfgang Becker”

Wolfgang Becker’s 50th birthday: I was working with him at that time, and Viviane Blumenschein and I thought we should make something special for him. Since I knew he loved the shortfilm by Claude Lelouche, where you see someone racing through Paris in a Ferrari at dawn, I thought Berlin is just as sexy. The only problem was: we had no Ferrari. We used Vivianes old Volvo, Frank Griebe, the cameraman, mounted the digi-cam on the Volvo and off we went. As you can see: sound is more important than anything else…

And it is also a historical document already: the “Palast der Republik” was torn down a year later. It will be replaced one day stupidly by a rebuilt Prussian palace, that was destroyed after World War II. Maybe one day this palace will be replaced by the “Palast der Republik” again?
